Making Money From Home Making Money From Home

We spend a lot of time in and around our homes, so why not try making money from home as a self employed person? There’s always a bill to be paid or an unexpected expense that pops up  – or you might even be trying to save for the holiday of a lifetime…! Wouldn’t it be great if you could put that time into making a bit of cash?

There’s a whole host of great ways to make some money from home – and it can add up to t pretty penny and all without leaving the house!

Home is many things – a place to live, eat and sleep but it’s also increasingly a place to work and to earn a living. Modern technology and the internet mean that we can work, live and play in our homes. Young people who have grown up with technology think nothing of it and some even have a side hustle going on from home. This might include social media influencing or a start-up developing websites, but there are loads of opportunities if you know where to look.

If they can do it, then so can you – here’s how:

WEBMASTER

If you know where to look, you’ll find the World Wide Web a truly awesome resource. There are many, many opportunities to turn your ‘stuff’ into hard cash, from photos to shoes that you’ve never quite got round to wearing. Stock photo libraries, including Adobe and Shutterstock, can pay for good landscapes and online easy-to-access images are always in demand. You may only earn a few pounds at a time, but you’ve also turned a memory into money.

There are many sites that let you sell your second-hand items – you might be surprised at how much your things could fetch. What you might think are toys that your children are finish with might actually be little pots of cold, hard cash! eBay is probably the most well-known and will let you post your goods, while Gumtree allows for local collection. If you want to make money from lending your things, try FatLlama.com or RentNotBuy.co.uk. You can rent out pretty much anything on these sites, from cameras to construction tools.

If you have got a saleable skill, you can even transform that into income with freelancing sites, including TaskRabbit.co.uk or PeoplePerHour.com. TaskRabbit lets you help people with small tasks, like flat pack or painting, while People Per Hour means that you can put any writing or design skills that you have to good use.

SUPPLY AND DEMAND

The greatest opportunities lie in working out what people need most and giving it to them. Could your driveway hold the key to your financial situation? While people living in urban and suburban area have been renting their driveways out for years, via Just Park.com, people who live near beauty spots and popular beaches have seen demand soar. You can set your own prices and spaces can be big earners.

We’ve all come to understand the benefit of leaning online, but you don’t have to be a big organisation or business. If you have a skill, you can share it with a class or individual, over the internet. You might be able to speak two languages and be able to offer flexibility that big organisations can’t manage. You might be a maestro on the drums or a yoga guru, but you can teach through the internet, offering prices that will boost your earnings but still work for your followers.

SECONDS OUT

We often imagine second jobs to be in bars or restaurants, but there are so many opportunities for you to make money with a second job without leaving your living room. Many big brands count on customers being able to get hold of helpdesks and customer service outside of the core business hours. Rather than drag people into a call centre, they often recruit people to work the evenings and weekends from home. You will get a reasonable hourly rate and work is often flexible with some companies offering a good incentive scheme.

ANYTHING ELSE?

That depends on you and how determined you are to earn some extra cash – but that’s true of almost anything. The working-from-home world is your oyster and there are many things that you could turn your hand to. Got great grammar? Why not proofread or edit? If you have a second language and experience of life in another culture, you could translate or help small businesses to better understand how to work with companies in those places. If you love to buy online, you could even turn your reviewing into a cash activity.

Set some time aside to do some research and consider your options. When you see your niche, fill it and go for it! There’s nothing holding you back.
